Don't know why I read this as it is not very good. Probably avoiding another Tolstoy, already read detective novel and/or spending money with Amazon.
A bit of post war adolescence in Birmingham; the boy's mother is German and left a lover there when she met his father (whom she despises).
Why she does the hoovering naked is unclear to me; I may have missed something.
