I always try to take one big, difficult book on holiday, and am not a fan of Dickens, but persevere.
Fairly typical of what I dislike about Dickens – over sentimental, particularly the dreadful Dora., although Agnes is an improvement. Some big Dickens characters – Uriah Heep and mother, Mr Micawber and family, Barkis who is willing.. but overall a pretty lightweight and self satisfied bildungsroman.
