Enjoyed ‘The Trial’ enough to read another Kafka, but Metamorphosis has less weight; it is very internal and apart from Gregor’s family, there is no other significant interaction. Even with his family it is one-sided. So, to sound Leavis-ish, ‘a lesser book’.
I didn’t read any of the other short stories; 'Metamorphosis' is only about 50 pages, but then some of those listed here are very long.
